Special Precautions/Comments:
N.B.: Timing of samples based on required anti-fungal investigation:
- Fluconazole – Pre dose sample and a post dose sample taken 2 hours after oral administration
- Itraconazole – Pre dose sample only, taken up to an hour before dosing
- Posaconazole – Pre dose sample taken immediately before administration
- Voriconazole – Pre dose sample taken immediately before administration
Interferences: It is best to avoid use of blood tubes containing gel. Gel may bind the analyte which may result in an artificially lower result being obtained, interpreted and reported.

Background information: When patients are being treated with anti-fungals, it is important that levels are monitored to ensure that they are not so high that they are toxic or so low that they are ineffectual.
