DHEA-Sulphate (DHEAS)

Special Precautions/Comments:

Additional Information:

Dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS) is an androgen which originates almost entirely from the adrenal glands. However, some DHEAS may derive from the testes in males. DHEAS is weakly androgenic but can be metabolised to more potent androgens such as androstenedione and testosterone. DHEAS can therefore be used as a marker of adrenal androgen output. DHEAS does not bind to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and is not subject to diurnal variation. It is often measured alongside other androgens such as testosterone to investigate hirsutism and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in females.
