Growth Hormone (GH)

Special Precautions/Comments:

Additional Information:

Growth hormone (GH) is a pituitary hormone which is secreted in a pulsatile manner and is important for normal human growth. GH also regulates the production of insulin growth factor 1 (IGF-1).

GH is measured in the investigation of growth hormone deficiency and growth hormone excess (acromegaly). Due to the pulsatile secretion and instability of GH, it is often measured alongside IGF-1. Both GH and IGF-1 are usually measured as part of a dynamic function test to assess the  hypothalamic/pituitary axis.
