Haemoglobin (part of FBC profile)

Special Precautions/Comments:

Additional Information:

Haemoglobin is the iron containing metalloprotein in red blood cells which performs three functions, each of which is essential for life: 1) transport of molecular oxygen (O2) from the lungs to the tissues; 2) transport of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the tissues to the lungs; 3) buffering of blood to prevent changes that are incompatable with life. Haemoglobin measurement provides information on the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood. Measurement is useful for the indication of anaemia.Haemoglobin is the iron containing metalloprotein in red blood cells which performs three functions, each of which is essential for life: 1) transport of molecular oxygen (O2) from the lungs to the tissues; 2) transport of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the tissues to the lungs; 3) buffering of blood to prevent changes that are incompatable with life.
