Protein C is one of the natural anticoagulants. It is a vitamin dependant plasma glycoprotein and binds to thrombomodulin with Protein S as a co-factor to inactivate Factors Va and VIIIa. Deficiencies in Protein C lead to an increased thrombotic risk. It is assayed as part of the Thrombophilia Screen.
