Additional Information:

Valproate is an anti-convulsant mainly used in the treatment of myoclonic seizures and generalised absence seizures. It is also used in epilepsy and in bipolar affective disorder. 

Therapeutic drug monitoring allows the optimal therapeutic dose to be achieved by avoiding both subtherapeutic and toxic levels. Measurement of valproate is primarily used to check compliance.
